Brendan Rodgers’ side went ahead on 23 minutes.

Thomas Butler’s corner was cleared to Jobi McAnuff and the winger sped forward before slipping in Smith on the left of the area.

Smith sent in a low cross that was aimed at Don Cowie but the ball ran on for Tamas Priskin at the back post and he slotted home between Dorus De Vries’ legs.

Watford were 2-0 up 10 minutes later.

Smith played in McAnuff down the left. His low cross found Cowie, whose low shot from eight yards was brilliantly saved by De Vries.

Swansea defender Ashley Williams hooked the ball clear but only to Smith, who drilled a half-volley into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

Jason Scotland went closest for the Swans with a free-kick.
