Anthony Martial could return for injury-hit Manchester United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares to start Marcus Rashford against Southampton.

United were without a clutch of players for Wednesday’s trip to Crystal Palace but still managed to comfortably emerge 3-1 victors.

Those issues have hardly eased ahead of Saints’ arrival, with Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard out along with Phil Jones, Nemanja Matic, Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia.

Martial could return to the fold on Saturday after a groin complaint and Rashford is primed to start after an ankle injury saw him start on the bench at Palace.

“It’s the last session today but we’re not going to take any risks so maybe Anthony, but it might even be a few more days before he’s ready,” Solskjaer said.

“So probably the squad will look similar to what it did on Wednesday.

“Rashford (is fully fit). He said he still felt it Wednesday night so he’ll be ready, so I’ll probably start him.”

Away from immediate matters, Solskjaer was quizzed about the status of star man David De Gea’s contract negotiations.

“No updates from me on that one,” the United caretaker boss said. “Of course the club and David are in dialogue, so hopefully they’ll agree.

“It’s out of my hands anyway, but I’m sure we’ll do what we can.”
