Solskjaer faces familiar dilemma as nine-figure fee planted on strike target

Raul Jimenez TEAMtalk

Wolves have planted a €100million (£90million) price tag on Manchester United-linked striker Raul Jimenez, according to a report.

The Mexico international has become a vital part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side since his 2018 move.

He arrived on loan, a deal which was made permanent last April, and he has since kicked on with 23 goals this term.

As such, reports claim Jimenez is a target for United, with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to bolster his attack.

However, AS claims that the Red Devils will have to fork out a sizeable £90million to land the 29-year-old this summer.

Wolves’ owners, Fosun International, have ordered the price tag, and made clear they will not lose star players for cheap.

The report means Solskjaer faces a similar dilemma to the problems halting his pursuit of Jadon Sancho.

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly insisted that they will not sell the winger for less than £115million.

And United‘s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said earlier this year he does not expect clubs to pay high fees given football’s current financial struggles.

Clubs across Europe will scale back spending after losing out on revenue during the recent coronavirus shutdown.

In contrast, Solskjaer said in April that his side, one of the wealthiest in the world, could “exploit” the situation.

The AS report adds that Juventus have made a €50million bid for Jimenez, which Wolves have shrugged off.

SOLSKJAER ADDS TO DE GEA, HENDERSON DEBATE

Elsewhere, United potentially face another dilemma regarding their goalkeeping situation.

David de Gea has been the No. 1 choice for several seasons, but his form has dipped since the start of last term.

And United loanee Dean Henderson has made 11 clean sheets – the Premier League’s joint-best record – this season at Sheffield United.

Solskjaer was in no mood to talk about Henderson’s long-term future, however.

Instead, he maintained that Spain international De Gea remains the “best goalkeeper in the world”.
