Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to keep Ashley Young at Manchester United amid reports the full-back is in advanced talks over a surprise move to Inter Milan.

The veteran full-back is in his ninth season at Old Trafford, but falls out of contract at the end of the season and is free to negotiate a move to overseas suitors.

And according to widespread reports, Inter have held a series of talks with the player and are reported to have offered him a move to the San Siro that until 2021.

However, after the 34-year-old was surprisingly left out of the side for the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg defeat to Man City on Tuesday, Solskjaer has spoken out to insist he wants to keep Young at Old Trafford beyond the expiry of his deal, saying that his exit would seriously weaken his options.

“Tonight’s not the night to talk about players leaving because we need the players that we have in the squad,” Solskjaer said after United’s defeat to City. “And we’ve got a few months left of this season, we can’t weaken ourselves we need to strengthen ourselves if any movement is going to happen.”

Asked if he expects the transfer go go through in the summer, Solskjaer added: “I don’t know what you’re talking about, you’ve got to ask Ash.

“For me it’s about focusing on the next game and tonight.”

Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard has reportedly been offered to AC Milan after the divisive United man hooked up with controversial agent Mino Raiola.

The England international has just 18 months left on his United deal and Wednesday’s papers suggest he could be one of four United men shown the door in 2020.

Solskjaer would not be drawn on the player’s future but has pointed out his improvements after reducing his social media output.

“Jesse has had his ups and downs as I’ve spoken about before,” said Solskjaer ahead of the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at home to Manchester City.

“But say the games against City and Tottenham, they are examples of how important he can be for us.

“Of course we want him back scoring goals and making assists, there is no one who runs as much as Jesse, he is a great trigger in the pressing, a bubbly character.

“I don’t think you see as much as you do on social media. He’s got his head down, I’ve known him a few years and he is getting back to the Jesse I knew.”

In other United news, meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez has spoken out on the transfer rumours linking him with the Red Devils and Barcelona this month.
