Solskjaer signs for Yeovil
Ben Barratt takes time out of the World Cup to update us on Yeovil
I know what you are thinking,”What is that Yeovil fella doing talking about his club when I’m trying to watch the World Cup?”
Well, I still have my Honduras cap on as I sit to enjoy their campaign, but all the time with a green and white tint to my glasses.
Today has been a truly brilliant day for Yeovil Town, pre-season hasn’t even started but clubs all over the country are getting ready sooner and sooner, Yeovil have been announcing some brilliant news.
The first one was that Manchester United (or at least a Man Utd XI led by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer) will be coming down to Somerset for Darren Way’s benefit match.
The next news was that Terry Skiverton will be stepping down from his playing role and that he has already made moves to replace himself in Arsenal youth captain Luke Ayling who has already put pen to paper.
Crazy
So with a ticket to a Man Utd game in my back pocket and a new defender to cheer on, we suddenly hear that a former Hereford man called Williams had joined from a Bristol side, we all went crazy as we thought Super Gav was joining from City – in fact it was Andy Williams from Rovers, but that’s still a nice little coup for the club.
Six players were out of contract and were offered new deals, Terrell Forbes turned down his deal to return to London and Leyton Orient and former boss Russell Slade.
Slade – 1 Skiverton – 0
Rumours were hitting the web that Gav Tomlin and Nathan Smith could also join the Orient, until it was announced that they would both be signing new deals with Yeovil,
Slade – 1 Skiverton – 2 – a full time result!
Left-back Smith has been attracting Championship interest with Reading and Sheffield United monitoring the former Potters Bar defender, if they want him they are going to have to cough up some cash.
The biggest deal of the summer by a country mile was the news that Dean Bowditch, top scorer and immediate fan’s favourite has also agreed to a second contract and will be staying in green and white next year.
In fact the squad is starting to take shape, we’ve got a back four, a whole midfield and even a couple of strikers, the only thing we lack is a goalkeeper.
I’m really excited about the new season already, we’ve had a nice little Carling Cup tie as well – at home to Crystal Palace.
The fixtures are out soon – the new season is well and truly upon us, that is just fine by me.
I apologise for taking a couple of minutes away from your World Cup viewing, but if you only missed some of the ITV half-time analysis then maybe I’ve done you a favour!
