Solskjaer talks up massive Leeds rivalry ahead of Perth friendly

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer v Leeds TEAMtalk

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is relishing Manchester United’s pre-season friendly clash with Leeds in Perth on Wednesday.

Solskjaer enjoyed many a battle with the Yorkshire club during his playing days and is looking forward to renewing hostilities when the two go head-to-head again during their pre-season tour.

“I’ve got quite a few good memories,” he said. “Probably the 4-3 win, I scored two at Elland Road and seeing David Beckham and Ian Harte probably having the slowest race ever for a 50-yard long pass from Scholesy [Paul Scholes].

“We’ve had some great games against them.

“They had a fantastic team around the late 90s, 2000s, with a friend of mine Eirik Bakke.

“So there were quite a few fierce tackles in those games and hopefully it will be a good, competitive game tomorrow.”

Solskjaer admits he would love to see Leeds return to the Premier League and make the reunion a more regular thing.

“The more you play against each other, the more the rivalry will flare up,” said Solskjaer.

“You want to have games against the biggest clubs and if we have Leeds back up in the Premier League again I’m sure you can see the size of the game.

“It’s a great occasion for the players and the supporters and there were some fantastic games.”
