Tottenham forward Son Heung-min has been identified by Real Madrid as a potential transfer target, according to reports in Spain.
Son is enjoying one of his most successful seasons to date. He has already scored 12 goals in the Premier League this season – putting him just two away from matching his best ever tally in the competition.
The South Korean has also provided five assists in the league. His partnership with Harry Kane up front is proving crucial to Tottenham’s ambition this year.
However, as good as that has been for Tottenham, it may also be a cause of concern for them. Numerous clubs around Europe will be keeping an eye on their star players.
According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are now showing an interest in Son. In fact, boss Zinedine Zidane is “in love” with the idea of signing him.
As a result, the club hierarchy are seriously thinking about launching a bid for Son. However, they would wait until the end of the season to do so.
Son would be unlikely to leave Tottenham midway through a campaign in which they are battling for honours. Besides, Madrid are trying to cut costs at present.
However, their situation may improve over the next few months, which could allow them to enter the transfer market again.
The report suggests that Son would cost upwards of €100m. Therefore, it would be a complicated transfer.
Real may have to sell some players before they can think about testing Tottenham’s resolve for Son.
Son the alternative to Salah, Mbappe
While funds remain tight at the Bernabeu, Madrid continue to be linked with a number of high-profile attackers to be their next ‘galactico’ signing.
For example, Kylian Mbappe is a top target for the La Liga champions. Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is also one of their prime options.
Salah has been one of the most in-demand players in the world ever since his extraordinary first season with Liverpool.
Rumours continue to persist about his future, even though he has become a Premier League and Champions League winner at Anfield. The opportunity to join a club like Real Madrid remains tempting for any player.
However, Defensa Central admit that “the arrival of Mbappe or Salah is not guaranteed” in the Spanish capital. Therefore, Son is at the top of their agenda.
