Southampton recall Gallagher from MK Dons loan spell
Southampton have recalled striker Sam Gallagher from his season-long loan spell at MK Dons.
The 20-year-old forward joined the Dons last summer but has since found first-team opportunities limited at the Sky Bet Championship side.
The Saints have now brought an early end to the youngster’s loan after making only 15 first-team appearances, nine of which were from the bench.
MK Dons are currently 20th in the Championship, two points above the relegation zone.
Speaking about Gallagher’s departure, MK Dons boss Karl Robinson said: “Sam’s attitude has been spot on and he’s always given everything. It’s unfortunate that things haven’t worked out.
“He’s found opportunities limited and it’s vital, at his age, that he is playing games on a regular basis and we never want to stand in the way of a young player doing that.”
Southampton are currently 13th in the Premier League table and have won only one of their last eight Premier League games.
With Saints forward Sadio Mane linked with a move away from St Mary’s, manager Ronald Koeman may call upon Gallagher to make a first-team impact this season.
