Spurs and Arsenal could be set to miss out on a midfield target, with Serie A giants Roma plotting a bid according to a report.

Tottenham and the Gunners have been strongly linked with a January move for Mexico star Hector Herrera, whose contract runs outs next summer.

Spurs have doubts continuing over Mousa Dembele’s future in north London, while Unai Emery is continuing his overhaul of the Arsenal squad.

Porto paid just €11m for Herrera back in 2013 and despite his high release fee, it is more likely that the player will be sold for a figure in the region of €20m.

Now, Italian outlet Il Corriere dello Sport are claiming that Seria A giants Roma are plotting a €15m January bid to try and beat Inter Milan to Herrera.

The player is said to be keen on a move away from Porto but has a €40million release clause, and Real Madrid are said to have shown an interest after watching the 28-year-old’s outstanding display in the World Cup.
