Spurs battling La Liga giants for £18m Italy midfielder

Tottenham are among the front runners to sign Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini this summer, according to a report.

Tuttomercatoweb claims that Spurs are competing with Atletico Madrid to sign the 24-year-old, who has four caps for Italy.

Gagliardini joined Inter from Atalanta in January 2017, and so far has made 51 appearances for the club, scoring twice.

Last season, he helped Inter to a fourth-place finish in Serie A, securing Champions League qualification for the first time since 2011-12.

However, with Inter having added Radja Nainggolan to their midfield this summer, and Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal tipped to follow, spaces in the team may reduce for Gagliardini.

The report indicates that Gagliardini wants to be playing for a club competing in Europe, meaning Atletico and Tottenham are in good positions to make offers for him. Valencia could also make an offer, if Geoffrey Kondogbia leaves the club – a player who has also been linked with Spurs.

Despite these reports, Mauricio Pochettino is unsure if his side will make any signings before the transfer window shuts on August 9, having made no additions to their squad this summer.
