Manchester United are ready to try and gazump Premier League rivals Spurs to the signing of Steven Bergwijn, a report claims.
Reports from the Dutch press on Wednesday stated that Mauricio Pochettino has sent scouts to watch the Netherlands in action against England in their UEFA Nations League semi-final on Thursday night.
Spurs are believed to have have been monitoring Bergwijn’s progress for sometime, with reports last month suggesting that PSV were expecting a substantial bid from the north London side.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a superb season in Holland, scoring 15 goals and adding 13 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions.
Indeed, that form has now reportedly prompted Manchester United to take note and launch a last-ditch attempt to beat Spurs to Bergwijn’s signature.
A report on TMW states that United are planning to ‘hijack’ the Champions League finalists’ move for the €40m-rated man.
Liverpool have also been linked with interest in Bergwijn, as have both Milan giants, and the player’s agent Fulco van Kooperen this week seemingly confirmed a move to Serie A was preferable.
“Bergwijn at Inter or in Italy? That’s what I hope,” van Kooperen told Calciomercato.
“The market has just begun , its arrival in Italy may occur but at the moment there is still nothing concrete.”
