Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will change his Liverpool squad number this summer.
The England midfielder, 25, made just two Premier league appearances this season after recovering from a cruciate injury he sustained the previous season.
Chamberlain, who is under contract until 2022, will move from number 21 to number 15 for the 2019/20 season.
It’s the jersey vacated by the departing Daniel Sturridge – a player Jurgen Klopp described as a “modern-day Liverpool great”.
Goalkeeper Alisson has already changed his temporary number 13 to a more appropriate no.1, while Fabinho should also get a new number this summer.
The Brazilian midfielder, who signed from Monaco, was temporarily assigned number 3, which could be taken by Andy Robertson, with Fabinho taking a number more fitting with a traditional midfield role.
Oxlade-Chamberlain will also personally reimburse any fans who have already purchased a 2019-20 replica shirt printed with ‘Chamberlain 21’ by way of a like-for-like exchange for a ‘Chamberlain 15’ jersey.
The LFC website stated: “The offer applies to all shirts purchased in official club outlets and via the official LFC online store before midnight on June 5, 2019.”
