Steele worried by gambling
Steele has admitted his concern at the widespread nature of gambling within the game and says players as young as 16 are getting addicted.
Steele told Sky Sports News Radio: “Gambling in football is a massive problem. I know so many players with gambling problems or they are heading that way and I’m talking about young players.
“Lads as young as 16 and 17, who have only just started getting paid are gambling in the bookmakers on the roulette machines. Those machines are evil; they’re the devil because it’s so easy to become addicted.
“So many players have problems and it’s the easiest addiction to hide, because physically you’re not changing – you’re not drinking and you’re not doing drugs.
“Players are not being educated about addiction, they are told about the gambling rules, but not about how to deal with addiction.”
