Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce has played down speculation linking him with the vacant Newcastle manager’s job.
The 59-year-old is unsurprisingly back in work already, having joined Chinese Super League side Dalian, which has left the Magpies scouting for his replacement.
Sky Sports News’ Keith Downie claimed on Tuesday that Bruce is one of the names being considered by the Newcastle hierarchy, however the Wednesday boss insists he knows nothing about it.
“It’s news to me,” Bruce told the Sheffield Star.
“God only knows what happened on Tuesday afternoon. There seemed to be an upsurge (in the betting) from somewhere.
“John Terry was favourite [for the job] yesterday. It was Mikel Arteta the day before so who knows.
“As far as I am concerned, I am here, I am going home tomorrow and looking forward to walking the dog!”
It’s been widely reported that Bruce is now Newcastle’s No 1 target to succeed Benitez in the Newcastle hotseat, while TEAMtalk sources also insist Anthony Hudson is poised to offered a role in the Newcastle coaching set-up.
