Klopp must be ‘smart’ and sign goal machine after Italy move stalls

Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool should be “smart” and forge a return to Anfield for exit-linked Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, according to one pundit.

Suarez looks likely to leave his current employers this transfer window, but his next destination remains unclear.

Amid links with Juventus, he has reportedly passed an Italian language exam. That would give him an Italian passport and residency in the country, allowing Juve to sign him after filling up their quota for foreign imports.

However, Atletico Madrid have allegedly made a late move to sign the Uruguayan. That approach has caused Suarez to think twice, with the striker wondering whether to remain in Spain.

According to Steve Nicol, Liverpool should take advantage of the situation and offer the 33-year-old an Anfield return.

“Absolutely, 100 per cent [Liverpool should sign Suarez], that would be a great [move]. It completely and utterly makes sense – it’s being smart,” the pundit told ESPN FC (via the Daily Express).

“You’re going to get a guy, after you speak to him, you’re going to get a guy who I think is going to be happy to go back and play at Anfield, is going to get sufficient amounts of games to keep him happy, he’s quality, he will score goals, he will give you something in the front three that I don’t think they possess.

“Maybe you can argue they don’t need anything else right now but it makes complete sense.

Liverpool have to get an experienced campaigner, who can play at the level that Liverpool are going to be playing at. Or you get a real star, an up-and-coming young player who again is more than happy just to be there and get the amount of games that he might get.

“But to the Suarez one, 100 per cent I would do it.”

Suarez has scored 198 goals in 283 games for Barcelona since his move from Liverpool in 2014.

LIVERPOOL MAKE THEIR MOVE FOR THIAGO

Liverpool will soon confirm the arrival of an experienced campaigner Nicol has called for.

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara is flying in to Merseyside to complete his move to Anfield on Friday.

The Spaniard, who will cost an initial £20million, has been a serial winner for the German champions.
