Steve Nicol says 19-year-old is ideal Alberto Moreno replacement
Steve Nicol thinks Jurgen Klopp should be looking to sign Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon this summer.
With Jurgen Klopp on the lookout for a back-up for Andy Robertson after the departure of Alberto Moreno, former Reds defender Nicol thinks 19-year-old Sessegnon would be the perfect fit.
Sessegnon has been long since linked with a departure from Craven Cottage with Spurs favourites to sign him, but his exit looks no closer this summer.
The 19-year-old is planning to leave the relegated Cottagers, although he may even play out the upcoming season before leaving on a free transfer next summer – although a tribunal would then become involved as he would still be under the age of 21.
The Cottagers reportedly want £45million for his signature but Tottenham are only willing to fork out £25m as it stands, with chairman Daniel Levy known to be a tough negotiator.
However, the Daily Mirror reported earlier this month that Spurs could sell Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose to a fund a move – and with Trippier confirmed as an Atletico Madrid player – that could be a goer.
Nicol though thinks Liverpool should make a move.
“Still a teenager,” Nicol told ESPN FC. “Well he [wouldn’t be] starting, he’s pushing. He’s there to push and he’s there to make the 11 that start better. He’s still a teenager, still has a lot to learn.
“But, what, in two or three years time, he’s pushing Robertson or anybody else down that left-hand side.”
Nicol, 57, also named four other players on his five-man summer wanted list, including Matthijs De Ligt, who has today been announced as a Juventus player.
Nicol also picked out Leicester’s James Maddison, Philippe Coutinho and last summer’s midfield target Nabil Fekir as player’s Klopp should be signing.
