Sunderland were obliged to sign Vergini on a permanent transfer after he made the required number of appearances on loan last season, but Dick Advocaat had made it clear the Argentine was not part of his plans at the Stadium of Light.

Now the 26-year-old has secured a move away from the North East.

Vergini made 51 appearances for Sunderland after arriving from Estudiantes, initially on loan, during Gus Poyet’s time in charge.

He played just four times under Dick Advocaat, who last month agreed to stay on as manager for another season.
