Surprise midfielder inclusion in Liverpool’s Champions League squad

Liverpool have submitted their Champions League group stage squad, with 20-year-old Herbie Kane included in the 29-man party.

Jurgen Klopp has named 22 senior players on List A with a further seven players on List B, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, who still qualifies as he was born after January 1, 1998.

Klopp could name a maximum of 25 players in his A List, but has named 22, including academy midfielder Kane who looked set to move on loan this summer.

Kane, who spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, scored seven goals in 49 appearances and has since been the subject of alleged interest from fellow League One side Pompey, who want to secure another loan spell for the player.

The Portsmouth News however claimed that Klopp wants Kane in his ranks this season, meanwhile while one player who was left out was 17-year-old Dutch defender Ki-Jana Hoever.

Liverpool start their defence of the trophy  away to Napoli on September 17, while Red Bull Salzburg and Genk also line up in the same group.

New signing Sepp van der Berg has also been included in List A, as well as injured pair Alisson and Naby Keita.
