Surprise move as Liverpool defensive pair set to be offered new deals
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will offer defenders Ragnar Klavan and Alberto Moreno long-term contracts, according to a report.
Roberto Firmino committed his future to Anfield over the weekend and Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are also expected to be offered new deals and sign them before the summer.
Firmino penned a five-year deal worth £180,000-a-week plus incentivised bonuses on Sunday after enjoying his best season to date with 27 goals.
And while, Moreno and Klavan are unlikely to land such lucrative deals it does represent a surprise that the two squad players will be offered new contracts with both players enduring criticism from fans.
Guardian Sport has reported that “Ragnar Klavan and Alberto Moreno are expected to be offered extended terms”.
Moreno joined from Sevilla in 2014 and has one year left on his current contract, meaning he could leave for free in the summer of 2019.
Moreno, who has made 21 Premier League and Champions League starts this season was expected to leave Anfield last summer after the purchase of Andy Robertson.
Estonian Klavan also has just one year remaining on his contract after joining Liverpool from Augsburg in 2016.
The 32-year-old has made 19 Champions League and Premier League starts and has been a reliable back-up option for Klopp at centre-back.
