Breel Embolo: Linked with £28m move to Man Utd

Tottenham have been linked with a £20million swoop for Swiss sensation Breel Embolo, according to reports.

The Basel striker, who has drawn comparisons with former Premier League star Didier Drogba, is in high demand this summer from a number of clubs.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to lower the workload of striker Harry Kane, with Embolo high on his summer hitlist according to The Sun.

The 19-year-old has had two impressive seasons in the Swiss Super League, with almost identical statistics across the board, scoring ten goals and amassing seven assists in 26 games in both 2014/15 and 2015/16.

Basel will demand at least £20million for the Cameroon-born youngster, who when speaking last year responded to questions about his future, stating he may like to try a different league in the future.

“The Bundesliga, the Premier League and Serie A the most. Where to go, I am not thinking about yet. I’m here in Basel, we are preparing for the second half (of the season).”

When asked about links to Bayern, he revealed his love for Barcelona, speaking to Blick.com.

“No, my favorite team is – next to the FCB – FC Barcelona . That fits. Both are wearing red and blue colours.”

He chose to represent Switzerland rather than his birth nation Cameroon, something which he admits was a hard decision, and may feature at the upcoming European Championships.

“That’s right, they (Cameroon) tried very hard to get me. We had two or three good conversations. But for me was relatively clear early on that I will decide for Switzerland, here I can develop better.

“Still, it was not a decision against Cameroon, but one for Switzerland, because I feel very connected to the two countries.”
