Man Utd loanee reveals Solskjaer advice after standout recent displays

Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong has revealed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends him advice amid his performances for Birmingham City.

The 21-year-old attacker’s current spell at St Andrew’s represents his third stint away from Old Trafford. Following loan moves to Feyenoord and Club Brugge, he stayed in England this time around.

Furthermore, Chong has played a standout role with the Blues, making six 90-minute stints.

While he has not played every minute in the Championship, he has appeared in every game but one.

One of former Netherlands Under-21 international Chong’s best Birmingham displays came when he notched two assists in a 5-0 win over Luton.

He has now revealed that the Man Utd coaches keep in regular contact with him and track his progress.

“Yeah, it’s always nice to hear from him [Solskjaer] and that he’s watching the games as well,” Chong told United’s official website.

“That’s good. The coaches and staff are obviously in contact after the games. I’ve got Darren Fletcher and Kieran [McKenna] and, like I say, even the manager sometimes texting me.

“You know, after matches, it can be a ‘well done’ or ‘well done, you can improve on this and this’ and, to be honest, the contact has been very good. Les [Parry] has been calling and I think he’s even been at most of the games.

“That’s nice, to have that as well, to stay in contact and sometimes we analyse and speak about the games.”

As well as receiving advice from his parent club’s coaches, Chong also revealed his own personal targets at Birmingham.

“It’s about taking it game by game really and step by step,” he said.

“Our focus is on the next game, which is West Brom, and we want to get the points and put in a good performance there. That’s where the mindset is at the moment.

“Myself, I’ll keep improving on my performances really, and learn from any mistakes I’ve made in the previous games and try not to do that in the game. I’ll try to keep doing the good things.”

Birmingham went into the international break 16th in the Championship table after 11 games.
