Manchester United winger Tahith Chong has said that he is excited to see the next phase of boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plan for the club.
United‘s 5-0 thrashing of LASK in the Europa League on Thursday extended United’s unbeaten run in all competitions to 11 matches, a spell helped by the arrivals of Odion Ighalo and Bruno Fernandes.
The club’s recent form is a dramatic upturn from the performances seen earlier in the season, when there were stronger calls for Solskjaer to be sacked.
Speaking to MUTV (via the Daily Mirror), the 20-year-old explained how he is looking forward to what the future has in store from next season onwards.
He said: “I’m at a club where, if you work hard, you get your opportunities.
“It’s all about taking those opportunities as well. I think we’ve got a manager who believes in young players. It’s an exciting time at the moment.
“I speak to the manager and everyone around the club to look to what is best for you to do. I think the club is coming in with a brilliant plan and it is just exciting to see what’s going to happen next year.”
Chong also praised United’s youth setup, with 18-year-old Mason Greenwood‘s fine rise to prominence a solid example of Solskjaer giving youngsters a chance.
“The club has done a fantastic job really with the young players. It’s always been a club that gives opportunities to youngsters.
This year it has been amazing the faith and trust that the manager has been showing in the young players.”
In other news, United are reportedly willing to sell Phil Jones this summer, with Newcastle and West Ham said to be interested.
Jones, who has been an important figure for the Red Devils since joining in 2011 but his game time has diminished under Solskjaer.
