Tottenham face Juventus in a battle to sign Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo, according to a report in Italy.
Tuttosport report that Spurs are preparing a €45million bid to sign the attacking midfielder, who hit six goals last season.
Mauricio Pochettino is looking to add to his squad this summer and he may well have to find a replacement for Christian Eriksen who has said “he would like to try something new”.
Spurs though will face competition from Juve with CalcioMercato claiming that Juve chief Fabio Paratici already in transfer negotiations with Zaniolo’s agent Claudio Vigorelli at the ‘Football Leader’ awards in Naples.
Apparently the two parties discussed a move to Turin for the 19-year-old Zaniolo and Juve’s Mattia Perin could well be included as part of any offer.
Roma though would probably prefer to take the lump sum for Zaniolo and that may well give Spurs an advantage over Juve, although Zaniolo is a boyhood Juve fan.
Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Spurs sent a scout to watch Zaniolo as Roma beat Juve 2-0 at the Olimpico last month.
Zaniolo, who arrived in Rome from Inter Milan last summer as part of the deal that took Radja Nainggolan the other way, has scored six goals in 35 appearances in all competitions – including a Champions League brace against Porto in February.
His rapid rise has attracted the interest of several major European clubs, including Bayern Munich and he won his first senior cap for Italy during the 2-0 win over Finland in March.
