JOE HART: Stood strong and maintained concentration as Ukraine powered forward. Took pace off Marko Devic’s shot, allowing Terry to clear. 7.

GLEN JOHNSON: Many of the questions about why he gets a game were answered here. Defensively solid. 7.

ASHLEY COLE: Had work cut out to keep Ukraine at bay. 7.

STEVEN GERRARD: Worked tirelessly and lead by example. Yet again delivered the cross that brought an England goal. 8.

JOHN TERRY: Another solid contribution. Led the defence magnificently, superb pass for Young and vital goalline clearance. 7.

WAYNE ROONEY (off 86): Struggled to get pace of the game and missed a glorious chance to put England in front. There when it mattered though. 7.

ASHLEY YOUNG: Best performance of the tournament, but still needs to step up to the plate. Lack of composue and too wasteful with the ball, but did create a chance for Rooney. 6

JOLEON LESCOTT: Another solid display and if he had not made tackle on Andriy Yarmolenko, England would have been in trouble. 7.

JAMES MILNER (off 69): Preferred to Theo Walcott, found it difficult to get involved in any meaningful attacking way. 6.

SCOTT PARKER: made some crucial interceptions but still looks to be struggling with the pace of the tournament games. 6.

DANNY WELBECK (off 82): Not much chance to show what he can do but kept plugging away. Good close control. 6.

THEO WALCOTT (on 69): Ran hard and kept Ukraine occupied. 6.

ANDY CARROLL (on 82): Not enough time to make an impact.

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN (on 86): Not enough time to make an impact.
