Erik ten Hag has firmly moved to block the transfer deadline day departure of a Manchester United man subject to a late approach from Sean Dyche and Everton.

Dyche was only officially confirmed as new Toffees manager on Monday in succession to Frank Lampard. And the gravel-toned former Burnley chief faces a tough fight to try and help Everton retain their Premier League status. Indeed, they sit 19th in the table and host Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday in his first game.

In order to maximise their survival prospects, Dyche is looking for some late signings to boost his Everton squad. Their main issue involves a lack of goals and they are looking into a late deal for a former Chelsea striker.

And with Anthony Gordon departing for Newcastle, Everton are also seeking another winger to add to the mix. To that end, the club also wanted Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana. Indeed, they had a £22m offer accepted for the Ghana star.

However, Sulemana has instead opted on a move to Southampton.

With time ticking away, Dyche turned his attention towards Manchester United. And it was former Lampard target Anthony Elanga, who was the subject of a late approach from the Toffees.

The Swedish winger has made 20 appearances in all competitions for United this season. However, with competition tough for starting places, Elanga was the subject of a huge 10 enquiries this month, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Indeed, that chase was initially being led by PSV Eindhoven with former United star Ruud van Nistelrooy now their coach. He wants the 20-year-old as a short-term replacement for Cody Gakpo, who departed for Liverpool.

Their interest, though, was quickly shut down.

Nonetheless, Elanga still found himself a man in demand.

To that end, United fielded two more enquiries for Elanga on deadline day. The first one came from Barcelona, looking for another option in attack to cover the departure of Memphis Depay.

The second one came from Everton, with Dyche looking to bring him in on loan for the remainder of the season.

However, despite Elanga’s apparent willingness to leave, Sky Sports News reports that Ten Hag has said otherwise.

And on the day the club announced a bad injury to Christian Eriksen, the United boss has put his foot down, insisting that Elanga stays put.

He will now stay with the Red Devils for the remainder of the season with Ten Hag very much seeing the forward as part of his plans.

For Dyche, the snub from United represents another transfer failure for the Toffees.

And at 21.55, Sky Sports News reported that Dyche had left Everton’s Finch Farm training ground for the day. While not drawing any conclusions, Sky Sports presenter Julian Warren suggests that ‘does not bode well’ for the Toffees.
