Ten Hag puts massive Man Utd flop up for sale as Aston Villa become likelier destination than Tottenham

Man Utd have set their asking price for one of their most underwhelming signings in recent memory amid new interest from Aston Villa, a report has claimed.
Jadon Sancho is the player in question after only scoring 12 goals from 79 appearances since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. Man Utd obviously expected a lot more from the winger after putting so much time and money into their pursuit and eventual acquisition of him.
Tuesday’s transfer gossip reported of Man Utd’s interest in signing an upgrade on Sancho this summer. Obviously, questions are now being asked of the 23-year-old’s future as a result.
Over the weekend, Tottenham became linked with Sancho. But according to an update from Football Transfers, Spurs are not actually interested in him.
However, the website does claim that Aston Villa are contenders to offer Sancho a fresh challenge elsewhere in the Premier League.
Unai Emery’s side would hope to find a compromise with Man Utd about Sancho’s transfer value. According to the report, the asking price as things stand is £60m.
Indeed, Man Utd are said to be ready to sell Sancho this summer, despite his contract still lasting until 2026. It’s claimed that Erik ten Hag has not felt like the former Man City academy prospect has been up to standard.
With the manager preferring to put his faith in Alejandro Garnacho for the long term, he will not stand in Sancho’s way of an exit.
But after Man Utd paid €85m to sign him just a couple of years ago, it will be important for the club to try and not make too large a loss when selling him. Unfortunately, his form might make that difficult.
Aston Villa linked with Sancho and Maguire from Man Utd
Villa would not be willing to match Man Utd’s £60m valuation of Sancho, but they could feasibly reduce it in negotiations.
Even so, it would likely require a club-record bid by Villa to secure Sancho’s services. Their current most expensive recruit of all time is Emiliano Buendia, who cost them up to £38m when they bought him from Norwich City in 2021.
Interestingly, other sources have been indicating that Villa are also interested in Harry Maguire, another player who cost Man Utd a lot of money but has struggled to justify their faith.
The centre-back will have to consider his future this summer after falling down the pecking order – a situation that could worsen if Man Utd complete the signing of Kim Min-jae from Napoli.
He too would be an expensive target for Villa, but after qualifying for the Europa Conference League, Emery’s team are looking up. In another coincidence, Maguire is also apparently on Tottenham’s radar.
Some big decisions could be on the horizon for Sancho and Maguire this summer while Man Utd look to keep moving forward under Ten Hag’s guidance.
With just 29 Premier League starts between them this season, neither are relied upon as much as they should have been for their original valuations. But Sancho in particular has time on his side if he can rediscover his talent at another club, while Maguire might make his experience useful to someone else.
