Ten Hag told to dump four Man Utd stars and destroy Boehly dream with £80m raid for Chelsea star

Erik ten Hag Manchester United manager

Manchester United have been urged to consider moving on four underperforming players this summer and replace them with the addition of an impressive Chelsea star.

The Red Devils are enjoying an excellent season under Erik ten Hag’s leadership. He’s shown he’s not afraid of making some tough decisions as he showed while standing up to the Cristiano Ronaldo controversies.

And with the Carabao Cup in the bag – together with the chance to add more silverware in the FA Cup and Europa League – few would argue that the United boss has not been proved right.

With the summer window fast approaching, Ten Hag is preparing for the next phase of his rebuilding plan. And with his eyes on at least three big-money signings to further strengthen his squad, United will be expected to be among the title contenders next season.

Top of Ten Hag’s priorities list are a new No 9 – and Tuesday’s Euro Paper Talk has news of two potential new arrivals.

However, the United boss is also being urged to gazump Chelsea to the signing of their loan star Joao Felix.

The Portuguese star has caught the eye since arriving at Stamford Bridge on loan from Atletico Madrid. And while has only has two goals in 12 appearances, Blues co-owner Todd Boehly has made clear his wish to make the move permanent.

Any such deal is likely to cost in the region of £80m. But with the Spaniards willing to sell, it will just be a case of settling on a fee.

Chelsea, though, could reportedly be usurped by United in the chase for Felix.

Man Utd told Joao Felix can add something to their attack

That is certainly a move that former Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor can see paying dividends. He believes the 23-year-old would be a shrewd addition for Ten Hag’s side.

Furthermore, he has named four under-performing attackers the Dutchman should move on to make room for the Portuguese star.

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor said: “I really like what he’s [Felix] done so far.

“I’ve seen a different side to him at Chelsea. At Atletico, he was playing too deep and wasn’t suited to how they play.

“At Chelsea, you see him getting on the ball, twisting past players – and he’s got a bit of pace as well. I really like him, but he’s got to be more clinical.

“I don’t see any reason why Man United can’t get him. They need options if they’re in the Champions League next season.”

Turning his attention to the quartet United should move on, he added: “[Anthony] Martial isn’t good enough, nor is Weghorst – scrap them. Antony and [Jadon] Sancho haven’t been great. You’re talking about [Marcus] Rashford as their only threat.

“They need help, or it could be an embarrassing time in the Champions League for them. Felix, for me, would be a good signing for them.”

Nkunku deal may provoke Chelsea change of heart

Some observers believe that Chelsea’s interest in signing Felix permanently could fade following the capture of Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman has finalised a move to SW6 from RB Leipzig with the move to go through this summer.

Also a deep-lying forward, he occupies a similar area of the pitch to Felix. As a result, there are claims a more reserved approach from Boehly may see the Felix move scrapped.

And with the Portuguese seemingly having no future at Atleti, a move elsewhere – and possibly to United – could open up.
