Henry tells fans two things Daniel Ek wants to bring back to Arsenal

Thierry Henry has explained to Arsenal fans the two main things Swedish billionaire Daniel Ek wants to bring back to the club.

Ek recently tweeted his interest in launching a bid to buy Arsenal on the night fans were protesting outside the Emirates Stadium against current owner Stan Kroenke. However, Kroenke, through his Kroenke Sports and Entertainment business, has since said he has no interest in selling – but Ek continues to move forward with his plans.

He has former Arsenal players Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira – as well as Henry – backing his bid and the club’s all-time leading goalscorer explained how the trio got involved.

“It is true,” he told Sky Sports of his involvement in a potential takeover bid.

“Daniel is an Arsenal fan – he hasn’t said that for publicity, he has been an Arsenal fan for a long time.”

Henry went on to insist the bid did not develop because of unhappiness with performances or a lack of success on the pitch.

Raheem Sterling 'seething' in midweek with Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund chase another young English talent and Liverpool in for a Dutch forward all in today's transfer chatter.

“It took Liverpool a long time to win a trophy. But along the way they never lost their identity, they always stuck together,” he added.

“That is what we want to bring, that DNA and identity back. If you had fans on the board that Super League would never have happened.

“Everyone is trying to chase Manchester City right now, it is not going to be easy, but it is not only about what is going on on the field, it is also about what is happening off the field and the fans are not happy about it.”

River Plate urging Arsenal to make move

Meanwhile, Argentinian club River Plate are keen for Arsenal to do whatever it takes to sign Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez this summer as they will benefit from the transfer.

The Gunners have been linked with a summer swoop for the defensive midfielder who is valued at around €80m. That figure would represent a huge profit for Betis, who signed the 27-year-old for just €3m in January 2020. The Spanish club’s ‘delicate financial situation’ has seen cited as the reason why he may well be sold.

And that is despite Rodriguez insisting back in March that he is content with life at Estadio Benito Villamarin.

“I am very happy. I arrived and there was one or two months with a strange situation for everyone with the issue of confinement,” he said. “But the truth is that I am very happy in Seville, with the city, the weather, at the club. I’m very happy.”

Estadio Deportivo (via Sport Witness) are suggesting that ‘everything indicates’ Arsenal will firm up their interest at some stage. And River Plate will ‘ally themselves’ with Arsenal if they do opt to try and buy the Argentina international in the off-season.

That is because they will net some of the transfer fee involved due to owning the player’s training rights. It is not specified how much they could make and it is not expected to be a huge figure.

Lower Guido Rodriguez fee on the cards

Betis inserted an €80m release clause into the South American’s contract. However, the current pandemic means everything is negotiable as clubs look to get whatever they can to help stay afloat.

The north Londoners will doubtless offer significantly less if they do make a bid this summer. And it may well be a busy time for the former Club America star’s agent.

It is thought that Betis will not accept anything less than €50m for the midfield enforcer. That reduced figure might also tempt Liverpool, who have been linked in recent months.
