Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta still has Thomas Partey in his sights this transfer window and he is reportedly contemplating offering Lucas Torreira to get the deal done.
Partey is believed to be one of Arteta’s top targets all summer, but with Atletico Madrid not budging on his £45million release clause, the Gunners’ hands have been tied.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone admitted earlier in the summer that the “best clubs” in Europe are after Partey.
“When he’s at his best level consistently, he’s so good that all the best teams in Europe are looking at him,” Simeone said.
However, the deal which would have seen his salary doubled to £130,000 a week and his exit clause raised to €100m never materialised.
And now Partey, whose current contract expires in 2023, has reportedly turned down a new contract because he wants to finalise his move to the Premier League.
Atleti line up replacement
According to Marca, Atletico are resigned to losing Partey and have already lined up a replacement in Espanyol’s Marc Roca.
Arteta, who has already added Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes to his squad, has already tried to use Matteo Guendouzi and Alexandre Lacazette as bait.
Now though Spanish website OkDiario claim that Arsenal are contemplating whether to use Torreira to tempt Atletico.
Atletico were among the clubs keen to sign Torreira in after his impressive performances for Uruguay at the 2018 World Cup.
He has fallen out of favour under Arteta and didn’t start in their FA Cup final victory over Chelsea back in August.
