Three bids already rejected as PSG pursuit of Dele Alli goes down to wire

Dele Alli Tottenham TEAMtalk

PSG will continue to back Mauricio Pochettino’s attempts to sign Dele Alli from Tottenham, according to reports.

Alli has fallen out of favour at Tottenham ever since Pochettino was replaced by Jose Mourinho in November 2019.

The England midfielder has not started a Premier League game since the opening day of this season, when he was taken off at half-time.

Opportunities have been slim for the 24-year-old, who is yet to complete 90 minutes in any game he has played in this season. It has led to rumours of a January exit for the midfielder.

Pochettino would like to reunite with him at PSG, a destination that appeals to Alli. However, the Ligue 1 champions only want to sign him on loan.

Tottenham would prefer to sell him on a permanent deal. Alli is hoping they change those demands, though, so he can leave.

Spurs have stood in his way before, though, with The Athletic revealing that they rejected three bids for him in the summer.

PSG are undeterred by this and will keep pushing for a deal by the end of the transfer window. Spurs chief Daniel Levy is happy to play this waiting game.

Levy feels he could get the best deal possible for Alli by waiting until deadline day. Therefore, Alli’s future may not become clear until February 1st.

Previous reports have indicated that Levy could be holding out for as much as €50m for the former MK Dons man.

Mourinho, for his part, has given the green light for Alli to leave the club. In that event, Tottenham may need to sign a replacement he trusts more.

There has been talk of a potential return for Christian Eriksen, who has struggled to reach his usual heights since leaving for Inter Milan one year ago.

However, that deal may also be difficult and would go down to the wire if Tottenham chose to pursue it.
