Three Chelsea exits rumoured as transfer guru dispels spending myth

Michy Batshuayi TEAMtalk

A common misconception regarding the summer transfer window Chelsea are overseeing has been debunked, while the club’s business has been described as “not over by a long way” by a prominent transfer expert.

The Blues are in the midst of a major squad overhaul under the guiding hand of manager Frank Lampard.

Nearly £130 million has already been spent, with that figure set to break the £200m mark once the final touches are completed on Kai Havert’s impending club-record transfer.

A common narrative within the media and among fans has been that Chelsea are simply throwing cash at their problems.

However, Sky Sports’ transfer guru, Dharmesh Sheth, has dispelled this misconception. He noted that the club could actually turn a profit in the transfer window for the period spanning the last 18 months.

“This is the first window since January 2019 where Chelsea have spent money,” Sheth told The Transfer Show.

“So they still have the money they got for Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata burning a hole in their pocket.

“When you put all of that together, their net spend over that period comes to just £40m, and I don’t think they are done yet when it comes to incomings and outgoings, not by a long way.

In order to balance the books, further exits will be required, and Sheth name-checked three Blues stars who could soon be set to depart Stamford Bridge.

“Willian and Pedro are off the wage bill, and they will want to get to get some money back for the likes of Victor Moses, Danny Drinkwater and Michy Batshuayi, should they sell them,” he added.

“Chelsea could actually be in profit when it comes to net spend if they are able to get money back for those players, with the Frank Lampard revolution in full swing.”

Chelsea snubbed swap for Barcelona ace

Meanwhile, The agent of a once crucial Chelsea midfielder insists his client is ‘appreciated by many clubs’, and revealed which current Barcelona star the Blues rejected the chance to sign.

Midfield metronome Jorginho has fallen down the pecking order under Lampard, though still made 31 appearances in the league last term.

And according to the player’s agent, Joao Santos, The Blues chose to snub a swap deal for Jorginho that would’ve seen a current Barcelona ace call Stamford Bridge his new home.
