Three reasons listed to why Man Utd will beat rivals to Maddison

Nemanja Matic, James Maddison TEAMtalk

Man Utd are ‘optimistic’ of acquiring rising England star James Maddison next summer, with a report from the Manchester Evening News listing three key reasons why the Red Devils are confident of securing the playmaker’s signature.

Maddison enjoyed a superb debut year in the Premier League for Leicester City, contributing seven goals and a further seven assists as Brendan Rodger’s side finished the season with a charge.

A further two goals and two assists have been registered in the current campaign – a run of form that saw Maddison called up to the senior England squad for the first time in October.

The player’s undoubted creative talents and profile as a British 22-year-old fit the bill of what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward are looking for at Old Trafford following the signings of fellow Brits Harry Maguire, Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer.

Maddison’s name has frequently been mentioned as a prime target for Utd, with Solskjaer expected to give the funds required to overhaul the squad in his image.

Now, a report by the Manchester Evening News has revealed that United are continuing to track the development of Leicester playmaker‘ with the fact that Maddison is a boyhood Utd fan emboldening the club in their pursuit.

The player’s close relationship with former teammate Maguire is also cited as a potential pull factor for the midfielder.

The report goes on to state that Old Trafford sources believe United’s England contingent of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard helped sway Maguire,’ a scenario that Red Devils chiefs will be hoping replicates itself with Maddison.

Meanwhile, Man Utd’s injury crisis has begun to mount after Paul Pogba and David de Gea were ruled out of their Europa League clash with Partizan Belgrade on Thursday.
