Manchester United have reportedly placed Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez at the top of their transfer wish list for a new goalkeeper.
Recent reports have claimed that finding fresh options between the sticks has become a summer Red Devils priority.
Furthermore, the Old Trafford club are supposedly planning a ‘radical overhaul’ of the position. Amid speculation over David de Gea’s future, United want two new, senior shot-stoppers before next season.
As for who they could target, meanwhile, AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma has entertained links to United.
The 22-year-old will become a free agent this summer if his contract stalemate with Milan continues.
The 28-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic rise since the end of last season to become an established Premier League star.
Indeed, for so long he remained backup at Arsenal, before Bernd Leno suffered injury in June last year. He took his chance excellently and, as such, earned his move to Villa.
The stopper has since kept 14 clean sheets in 27 top-flight games this season and has expressed his pride at proving Arsenal wrong over his abilities.
Football Insider does not state the fee United are considering offering Villa for Martinez.
However, the Argentine has reportedly earned ‘rave reviews’ at Old Trafford for his distribution, composure and command of the box.
United are supposedly looking to keep current No. 2 Dean Henderson while looking for replacements for De Gea and Sergio Romero.
Henderson has had a chance in recent weeks to prove his worth as United’s first-choice stopper.
However, De Gea could return now that he is back from personal leave following the birth of his child.
Pundit rules Man Utd out of Haaland running
Meanwhile, United are also supposedly keen to sign a striker in the upcoming transfer window.
Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who has hit 31 goals in 30 games this season, is their top target.
However, one pundit has expressed doubt about United’s ability to compete in the race for his signature.
