Tielemans didn’t want to wait around for Man Utd

Youri Tielemans went against his agent’s advice and signed for Leicester instead of waiting for Manchester United, according to Sky Sports.

Both Manchester United and Tottenham were recently linked with the 22-year-old, who impressed in 13 games on loan with the Foxes last season.

Only last month Belgian outlet HLN reported that Tielemans was a genuine target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is looking for a replacement for Ander Herrera.

But Sky Sports News has reported that Tielemans told his agent Peter Smeets he wanted to sign for Leicester City now rather than waiting for a firm offer from United.

The report claims: “Tielemans’ agent was keen to wait on a Leicester deal in case bigger clubs came in with an offer for the Belgium midfielder.”

Sky reporter Rob Dorsett said: “I understand he gave up the chance of a possible move to Manchester United.”

Tielemans though decided he wanted to commit his future to Leicester, with Brendan Rodgers convincing him about the ambition of the former Premier League winners.

The Monaco man apparently wanted the deal doing quickly so he could link up with the squad’s pre-season preparations in France.

Tielemans then signed a four-year contract at the King Power Stadium on Monday after signing for a fee in the region £40million.

Sky are also one of several sources, alongside PA and The Telegraph, who have reported that United have enquired about signing Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina.

“We have very good discussions with the club. We are in agreement. If I don’t feel good in this project, I can leave.

“They are giving me the opportunity to be able to go elsewhere,” said Lemina.
