Top England star Liverpool are ‘crying out for’ urged to avoid Man Utd move amid ‘really concerning’ backwards step

Declan Rice and Harry Kane of England

West Ham captain Declan Rice has been told to avoid going to Manchester United due to their poor recent results, while Premier League rivals Liverpool are apparently ‘crying out for’ him to be added to their midfield.

Rice has been sent several contract offers by West Ham as they look to tie their talisman down for the long run. However, the all-action midfielder has rejected such offers. He knows that with his current deal expiring in summer 2024 he will be able to leave for a bigger club at a reduced price later this year.

Due to Rice’s top performances for both West Ham and England, it is no surprise the country’s best teams are interested in him.

Last year, Chelsea were heavily linked with him. This was partly down to his close relationship with Blues star Mason Mount, plus the fact he had unfinished business at Stamford Bridge after he spent time in their academy.

However, Chelsea are no longer thought to be in the running due to their poor campaign. This has put the likes of Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal in a much better position to snare Rice.

During an appearance on talkSPORT, Ally McCoist has given his verdict on the 24-year-old’s future. He explained why Rice should snub Man Utd following the recent defeats to Brighton and West Ham, while adding how desperate Liverpool would be to complete a deal.

“He should probably go to Real Madrid with Bellingham!” McCoist declared.

“But if he was staying on these shores, I’d be really concerned about going to Manchester United at this moment in time.

‘Alarm bells ringing’ at Man Utd – Ally McCoist

“I think they’ve done really well, however the last few weeks have set alarm bells ringing in my head as they’re further away than I initially thought, so I’m not sure about going there.

“Liverpool’s midfield is crying out for Declan Rice, Chelsea have got an excellent midfield but I don’t know if they’re going to spend that kind of money after wasting the best part of half a billion and finishing 12th or 13th, that’s not great.

“I’ve got to be brutally honest, and that wee face of yours [Laura Woods] is lighting up – if you could swap Granit Xhaka for Declan Rice, never mind ‘I feel a bit this’, or ‘I feel a bit that’, if you’re an Arsenal fan that’s the move of the season!”

talkSPORT co-host Woods, an Arsenal fan, replied: “I know, I know. I want to keep them both but wow, if Arsenal managed to go and get Declan Rice…

“When people say ‘they bottled it’, or ‘they did this or that’, I’d say that the thing Arsenal did do this season was to make themselves contenders to attract £100million players, that’s what they did.

“What could he be for that Arsenal side next season? He could be amazing if they manage to get hold of him.”

Rice is certainly a player to keep an eye on as the summer transfer window draws closer. He will almost certainly swap West Ham for a team competing in Europe, though that club is yet to be decided.

It will be great to see Rice compete in the Champions League, should he get such an opportunity. He has proven he is able to cut it at the top level and will be hoping to win some major silverware when departing East London.
