Top Man Utd starlet opts against renewing deal amid Juventus interest
Tahith Chong has already reportedly decided not to extend his Manchester United contract beyond 2020, with interest from numerous clubs in his services.
The 19-year-old is out of contract at the end of the campaign and having made just four Premier League appearances for the club, he is said to be looking at his options away from Old Trafford.
The Holland Under-21 international has shown plenty of promise and did not out of place on the Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup stage.
But having arrived from Feyenoord in 2016, because he felt that ‘no plan was made for me. When I said I wanted to leave, they made a plan. That was too late’ – it would appear that things are now going the same way at Old Trafford.
Italian publication CalcioMercato states that Chong has already chosen not to renew his deal with the Red Devils, with Juventus interested in snapping him up on a free in the summer.
Chong, when speaking about his future just last month told Voetbal Primeur, as translated by Sport Witness: “Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] tells me to keep working hard and my chances will come. That’s nice to hear.
“There are a few players who left and I’m climbing up the pecking order.
“It’s always nice to come back to the Netherlands, but in the end I have to do what I find best for myself. That’s why I decided to stay,” he said in reference to approaches he had to leave Old Trafford this summer.
Regarding his contractual situation, Chong added: “Of course we are talking, but it’s still too early to say anything about it.
“The season is still long and we will see what happens. There are a lot of competitions coming up and I will focus on that.”
His agent, Erkan Alkan, has since confirmed that there was interest, not just from Juve, but also from Germany and Spain over the summer and a move in 2020 now appears almost certain.
