‘Total agreement’ reached as forgotten Leicester forward closes in on exit

Community Shield winners Leicester City have agreed a deal with Besiktas to sell a 29-year-old winger, according to reports.

The Foxes are in the process of sorting out their squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign. Christian Fuchs and Matty James have already left the club on free transfers, while midfielder Hamza Choudhury could join either Newcastle or Southampton on loan.

Brendan Rodgers has had another successful transfer window in terms of signings. Zambian striker Patson Daka arrived from Red Bull Salzburg for £27m. He looks set to become Jamie Vardy’s long-term successor up front.

They also completed the signings of Ryan Bertrand on a free and midfielder Boubakary Soumare from Lille.

But the Foxes aren’t finished, and it looks like they will soon offload another squad member.

According to respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, a total agreement has been reached for the sale of Rachid Ghezzal to Besiktas.

The Algeria international will soon be confirmed as a Besiktas player after flying to Istanbul to sign his contract.

French outlet Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness) say that Leicester will receive around €4m (£3.3m) for his services. Ghezzal was originally taken to the King Power for a £12.6m fee back in August 2018.

However, the player failed to impress Leicester coaches and managed just one Premier League goal in his debut season.

In 2019/20, he joined Fiorentina on loan in a bid to regain some confidence. His fortunes were similar as just one goal in 19 Serie A appearances came his way.

Ghezzal finally found some form in the Turkish Super Lig with Besiktas last season. He notched eight goals and 17 assists in 31 league appearances, leading to rumours of a permanent move.

Besiktas have now acted on their interest as they go in search of a 17th league title.

Leicester looking at Inter duo

While Ghezzal’s fee is only peanuts in the football transfer world, it could give Leicester a minor boost in their pursuit of two Inter Milan stars.

Following an injury to talented centre-back Wesley Fofana, Rodgers is in the market for a new defender. One rumoured target is Inter’s Stefan De Vrij, who represented the Netherlands at this summer’s Euros.

The Foxes could make it a ‘double deal’ by including midfielder Marcelo Brozovic in an exciting package worth €48m (£41m).

De Vrij would act as cover for Fofana during the 21/22 campaign, while Brozovic would add more steel to the Leicester midfield.

Such transfers could cause a fan revolt at Inter as the Serie A champions have already allowed a number of first-team stars to leave.
