Franck Kessie’s ever-improving form at AC Milan has seen both Arsenal and Tottenham linked with summer 2021 approaches for the Ivorian star.
The midfielder has been one of Milan’s star turns this season as Stefano Piolo’s side have made a brilliant start in Serie A. Sunday’s 2-1 win at Sampdoria has the Rossoneri top of the table with eight wins from 10 matches played so far.
While much of the focus has been on the evergreen form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kessie has quietly transformed himself into one of their most important stars.
Contracted to June 2022, Kessie’s goal at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium was his fourth of the season so far.
However, it is the former Atalanta star’s overall form that has truly caught the eye. Now, according to Calciomercato, that has led to renewed interest in his services from both Arsenal and Tottenham.
As per the Italian website, the Premier League rivals are both keeping a close eye on his progress at the San Siro. Indeed, they claim the pair are both pondering an approach for Kessie, though any move would be on hold until the summer.
They claim that interest has led to Milan placing a minimum €40m fee on Kessie’s head, with a truer valuation of €50m needed.
Milan, it’s reported, have no desire to cash in on Kessie and will reportedly offer the midfielder a new deal.
Indeed, his contract now has just over 18 months left to run. As such, Milan are reported to be ‘prioritising’ an extension for Kessie. Calciomercato claims ‘the desire to tie him down as soon as possible’ is there from Milan. Furthermore, they state all parties are ‘working hard to find an agreement’.
Should there be a failure to agree terms, then Premier League transfer speculation will gather pace. Until then though, it seems Arsenal and Spurs will continue to observe his situation.
Race on for Szoboszlai
Indeed, Arsenal and Tottenham could also be set to lock horns over another transfer target in Dominik Szoboszlai.
Szoboszlai is one of the most promising young players outside Europe’s biggest leagues. The Hungary international has established himself as an integral part of the RB Salzburg team. Salzburg have dominated the Austrian top flight in recent years, with Szoboszlai a key figure.
Salzburg have won the league in every season since Szoboszlai joined them in January 2018. However, they know they may not be able to enjoy his talents for much longer.
A number of clubs are interested in giving Szoboszlai a bigger platform on which to prove himself soon. For example, he has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.
Arsenal are keen to add more creativity to their side after failing to sign Houssem Aouar from Lyon this summer. A January deal for the Frenchman seems unlikely, so they have turned their attention to Szoboszlai.
However, they are not alone in their interest. Recent reports have suggested that rivals Tottenham may also swoop in for Szoboszlai. Now trusted journalist David Ornstein has confirmed those links.
