Tottenham battling Bundesliga duo to land £25m Vertonghen replacement

Tottenham are reportedly battling two top Bundesliga sides in their bid to land £25million-rated centre-back Ben Godfrey this summer.

Jose Mourinho looks certain to sign a new central defender, with Jan Vertonghen and Juan Foyth both tipped to leave.

Spurs have struggled defensively all season and were woeful at the back during the 3-1 defeat at Sheffield United.

Mourinho’s men are currently ninth in the Premier League, a whopping 10 points behind fifth-placed Manchester United.

And with just six games of their season remaining, they face a major uphill battle to qualify for Europe.

Belgium star Vertonghen is expected to quit the club on a free when his contract expires over the coming weeks.

Foyth has also been leapfrogged by Japhet Tanganga in the pecking order at Tottenham and could also move on.

With that in mind, The Sun claims that Mourinho wants to sanction a move for Canaries star Godfrey.

However, the London giants will face competition from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig for the England U21 star.

Godfrey, 22, has impressed in a struggling Norwich side that appears to be facing almost certain relegation.

The Carrow Road outfit have taken just 21 points from 33 games and are seven points from safety.

Godfrey is valued at £25million and will likely be one of the first players sold – if relegation strikes.

Indeed, Spurs may end up moving for two Norwich men this summer. With right-back Max Aarons also wanted to replace the wildly inconsistent Sergie Aurier.

Tottenham ready to pounce as Barca loanee’s future hit by abrupt U-turn

Tottenham have registered initial interest in a move for Barcelona loanee Emerson Royal, whose future at Camp Nou is in doubt, according to a report.

The right-back has spent the season on loan at Real Betis, playing 28 of the club’s 33 La Liga matches.

Indeed, the 21-year-old has impressed, chipping in with three goals and five assists.

However, the source adds that his performances have caught the eye from clubs across Europe. As such, Barca now willing to sell the full-back in their bid to raise much-needed funds.

Tottenham are among the clubs keen and have informed the Spanish giants of their initial interest. Read more…
