Jose Mourinho has argued that he would be receive harsher treatment than Jurgen Klopp should he act in the same way during matches.
Mourinho had just seen his Tottenham team lose 2-1 at Anfield after Roberto Firmino’s 90th minute winner won the game for the champions.
After the full time whistle, Mourinho was seen having words with Klopp. It was unclear at the time what had irked the Portuguese manager, however he explained more in his post-match interview.
Questioned about the exchange by Amazon Prime, he said: “I told him the best team lost. He disagreed but that’s his opinion.
“By the way, if I behave the same way on the touchline like he does I have no chance to stay there. I am out one minute afterwards.”
Asked if he thought Klopp was too animated, he added: Come on, that’s animated? That’s animated? Or do you want me to take the fourth official’s board from his hands and see what happens to me?”
The reporter then asked if he felt Klopp had gone too far, to which Mourinho responded: “No, I’m saying that. For some reason, I am different. That’s the only thing I’m saying and that’s that.”
Later, Klopp was confused when told that Mourinho had brought up his behaviour. The German claimed that was not something discussed between the pair.
Little difference between Tottenham and Liverpool
Despite the loss, Mourinho seemed buoyed by his team’s competitive performance.
Spurs were arguably the better team, particularly in the second half, and had chances to take the lead.
And Mourinho suggested that means there isn’t much difference in quality between his squad and Liverpool’s.
“Tonight we played against the champions in their stadium and we came here to win,” he said. “We had the best chances to win. The chances for Steven Bergwijn are great chances, just to speak about those two.
“The way the team was organised and the way the team surprised them tactically, the team was brilliant. Yesterday I was saying how many days of work they had with Jurgen and how many days my boys have had with me and today it didn’t look like that.
“It didn’t look like a team that was champions and European champions. That difference was not on the pitch.”
