Vincent Janssen: Joins Spurs on a four-year deal

Tottenham are reported to be close to agreeing a deal in excess of €20million with AZ Alkmaar for striker Vincent Janssen.

Sky Sports claim all parties are confident of agreeing a transfer for the 22-year-old striker, who has been interesting Spurs all summer.

Paris Saint-German and Wolfsburg are also believed to be interested in the forward, but Spurs are at the head of the queue despite seeing their opening bid of €18million rejected.

Daniel Levy is expected to make an improved offer and until that bid has been lodged Janssen is likely to train away from his AZ Alkmaar team-mates on Friday while the deal is thrashed out.

The Holland forward has already expressed his frustration over how long negotiations have taken.

“I have expressed my choice to the club. In my opinion, Spurs bid a high amount.

“At the moment I’m still a bit disappointed with AZ. I’m disappointed with how they behaved. I would like to make the move.”

Janssen, the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season with 27 goals, was given permission to spend two days in London last month and visited Spurs’ training ground, meeting manager Mauricio Pochettino and discussing his plans for the future.

However, AZ sporting director Max Huiberts said yesterday that no deal had been agreed.

“There is a lot of speculation and I read a lot of nonsense stories,” Huiberts told Noordhollands Dagblad.

“We received one bid from Tottenham Hotspur that we have not accepted. That’s not so strange to me. It is not often that a club agrees immediately with a first offer. Then we heard nothing more.”
