Tottenham confident of star striker staying as Levy refuses to buckle

Kane Levy TEAMtalk

Tottenham believe Harry Kane will stay with them for at least one more season, according to a report.

Kane has spent his entire career so far with Tottenham, except for a few loan spells away earlier in his career. He has flourished into one of their greatest ever goalscorers.

Unfortunately for Kane, he has no trophies to show for his goalscoring exploits. He was a runner-up in the 2015 League Cup and 2019 Champions League, but has yet to win a tournament.

He will be hoping to change that when Tottenham face Manchester City in the EFL Cup final in April. However, he has long since admitted that he will not just stay at Spurs for the sake of it if they are not matching his ambition.

Their slide down the Premier League table may be cause for concern, then. Tottenham were top of the league as recently as December, but a poor run of results means they now sit ninth.

Even if Jose Mourinho somehow inspires a turnaround and guides Spurs into the top four, it has been warned that a big-money sale this summer is “inevitable”.

There are fears, then, that Kane could be the one to make way. He has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, where he could reunite with former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Manchester City are also a potential suitor as they look for a long-term successor for Sergio Aguero. Their rivals Manchester United have also been urged by some to make a move for Kane.

Jamie Redknapp believes Harry Kane will be considering his Tottenham future if the club cannot show the same ambition he has to win a major trophy.

However, there may be no need for Tottenham fans to panic just yet. According to The Telegraph, there is a growing chance that Kane will stay put for at least another season.

With several of Europe’s top clubs struggling financially at present, they may not be able to pay a huge fee for Kane. Spurs supremo Daniel Levy would not be willing to let him go for less than his full value – and has not even set a price tag for him.

Therefore, Kane could commit his services to Spurs for another season. He will be 28 by the start of the next campaign, so will be eager to make the most of what should be one of his prime years.

Kane has scored 21 goals in all competitions this season and remains under contract with Spurs until 2024. Levy is aware his value will drop as that contract runs down, but there is still plenty of time left on it.

Mourinho hints at Kane starting in exciting quartet

Harry Kane, Gareth Bale Tottenham

Before any attention can fully turn to the transfer window, Tottenham must turn their season around.

The win over Wolfsberger in the Europa League on Thursday will have gone some way to restoring their confidence. It was a game in which Dele Alli and Gareth Bale sent reminders of their credentials with goals.

Since then, Mourinho has been asked about the prospect of the pair starting a match as well as Kane and Son Heung-min.

“Did you give me four names or 11? You want to give the other seven?” Mourinho joked ahead of their clash with Burnley on Sunday.

“You could see against West Ham, it’s not from the start. But you had Bale, Lucas, Harry, Sonny, Dele so you had it.

“We didn’t turn the game around but we left the game with positive feelings.”
