Newcastle had a €25million (£22million) bid for Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik rejected during the recent transfer window, according to a report.

Milik struggled for game time last season, with his Serie A club earmarking him for a summer exit. Indeed, as he approached the final year of his contract, Napoli were keen to recoup a fee for the Pole.

Tottenham and Everton both reportedly showed interest; Spurs boss Jose Mourinho made no secret of his desire to support Harry Kane, eventually opting to sign Carlos Vinicius.

Everton, meanwhile, were also keen on bringing the 26-year-old to Goodison Park. According to one journalist, though, Newcastle also showed strong willingness to secure a deal.

Italian intermediary Vincenzo Morabito told Area Napoli: “Napoli has two problems coming out. The main one is Milik, they will try to earn a little something.

“In September there was an offer of 25 million from Newcastle refused.”

Indeed, Milik eventually failed to secure a move away, but has outlined that he wants to find a new club in January. Napoli have not included him in their squads for either Serie A or the Europa League.

As for where he could move to, though, more recent reports have claimed that Everton’s interest has now cooled.

Italian journalist Ciro Venerato also told Area Napoli: “Everton is not interested in Arek Milik.

“[Carlo] Ancelotti called [Napoli president Aurelio] De Laurentiis already in the summer, telling the president of wanting a player with different characteristics, more similar to those of a sprinter like Victor Osimhen.

“Tottenham likes it, but there is nothing. Inter Milan, a little while ago, told me that they have no intention of catching the striker because it costs too much.”

Despite his Napoli exclusion, Milik has played in both of Poland’s recent games during the international break.
