Tottenham have reportedly pulled clear in the race to sign gifted QPR midfielder Eberechi Eze after the £20million price tag put off Sheffield United and Crystal Palace.
Spurs have been monitoring the 21-year-old for some time, with former boss Mauricio Pochettino showing a firm interest in the youngster before his sacking in November.
Current Tottenham chief Jose Mourinho is expected to strengthen the whole spine of his team this summer, with a number of players expected to move on as the Portuguese looks to mould his own team.
However, QPR’s high valuation of the creative midfielder is said to have put off both Chris Wilder and Roy Hodgson, leaving Tottenham in pole position to swoop.
Indeed, the report adds that Spurs could try and tempt QPR with a swap deal package to sign Eze, who has scored 12 goals and added eight assists at the Kiyan Prince Foundation stadium this season.
Meanwhile, Neil Lennon has poured cold water on suggestions that Kristoffer Ajer is heading for a summer exit from Celtic after the rangy Norwegian star was linked with a move to Tottenham.
Ajer has been a regular fixture in Celtic’s starting line-up since the start of last season, with the Norway international making 49 appearances in all competitions this campaign – scoring four goals and adding two assists.
The 21-year-old signed a contract extension with the Bhoys back in May 2018, with Ajer’s current deal running out in 2022.
