Tottenham back in hunt for winger being courted by rivals Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur are ready to re-enter negotiations with Ryan Fraser over the chances of signing him on a free transfer this summer, according to reports.
Fraser is approaching the final few weeks of his contract at Bournemouth, where he has developed into one of the most sought after players in the bottom half of the Premier League.
While the winger has not shown his best form this season, belief that he can recapture the standard of his performances from the previous campaign have made him an intriguing prospect as a free agent.
Two London rivals are the most closely linked, with Arsenal previously being confident of convincing him to sign up at the Emirates Stadium – keeping him away from the grasp of Tottenham.
Reports had suggested that Jose Mourinho was willing to abandon Spurs’ pursuit of Fraser due to concerns about his ability to slot in at the top level, but now, Football Insider claim that Tottenham are in fact ready to present a big contract offer to the Scotland international.
Spurs are eager to beat the competition for Fraser, and are prepared to offer him an inviting salary – despite Mourinho claiming earlier that transfer activity was far from his main focus at present.
“I would like my club to be what I know what we will be: sensible, balanced and not going to spend rivers of money,” he told Sky Sports. “We are trying to respect the situation, not just the football but the situation in the world and society overall.
“But it is the last thing we are thinking, we are not thinking about it. There are no talks about it. We think about safety and following every rule.”
Sources told TEAMtalk in April that Arsenal were in fact leading the race for Fraser, having kept an eye on his progress for some time.
Reports elsewhere have claimed that Fraser himself would be interested in a move to Tottenham, due to their credentials of competing in the Champions League.
