Tottenham keeping tabs on €50m striker let go by London rivals

Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race for former Arsenal academy player and current PSV star Donyell Malen, according to reports.

Striker Malen has started the season in eye-catching form, even scoring five goals in a single game against Vitesse Arnhem, which has led to rumours of interest from a mind-boggling 45 different European clubs.

Having scored on his senior Netherlands debut earlier this month, PSV believe his value has skyrocketed, and are set to demand €50m from any interested clubs – more than 100 times the value that Arsenal sold him to the Dutch giants for.

Despite the significant price, Arsenal are weighing up bringing him back to the Premier League – but they face competition from one of their London rivals.

According to a brief report from Calciomercato, Tottenham ‘like’ the 19-year-old, while Everton and AC Milan are also among the main contenders for the youngster.

Liverpool have also been named as a potential destination for the player, who has admitted he could have stayed in the Premier League.

“That I was sent away from Arsenal is certainly not true. I still had a contract for a year and Arsenal even wanted to extend that,” he explained to De Telegraaf.

“I don’t play football for the money. I never did that. Otherwise I would not have left England.”

Malen’s agent is Mino Raiola, who is the man behind Paul Pogba’s demands for a huge new contract at Manchester United. Read the full story here.
