Levy left in lurch as Tottenham boss target agrees game-changing move

Tottenham’s top target to replace Jose Mourinho in north London has reportedly agreed a deal to join German giants Bayern Munich this summer.

RB Leipzig chief Julian Nagelsmann was installed as the immediate favourite to replace the Portuguese, who was shown the door by Spurs last week after overseeing a poor campaign. Former player Ryan Mason has stepped in for the remainder of the season. However, he failed in his bid to land the club their first silverware since 2008, after Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

Bayern have also been in the hunt for a new manager after Hansi Flick announced his intention to leave.

That has led the Bavarian giants to turn to another Bundesliga boss in the shape of Nagelsmann.

However, it will cost them a world-record compensation fee to get their man. Leipzig are reportedly demanding a whopping £26m, although they have agreed to let the 33-year-old move on.

Bild states that Bayern are ready to stump up the cash to land one of the top young managers in Europe.

Nagelsmann has a 58% win percentage with Leipzig during his two years at the club. However, he was forced to offload his top attacker Timo Werner last term. Meanwhile, highly-rated centre-back Dayot Upamecano is also on his way to Bayern this summer.

Former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has now emerged as the new favourite. However, that deal is unlikely to go down well with Spurs fans again – especially after ex-Blues boss Mourinho’s ill-fated stint in north London.

Tottenham star backtracks on summer exit

Dele Alli has been tipped to spurn the chance to leave Tottenham this summer and will very much become a key figure again after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Alli suffered a lack of game time under Mourinho, often not making the squad at all this season. However, the 25-year-old has shown flashes of his talent when the chances have arisen. He starred in the FA Cup win over Marine in January and has also played a key role in Europe.

Despite that, his career has stuttered badly over the last 18 months and has been strongly linked with moves away. PSG came close to landing Alli in January before Daniel Levy backtracked and rejected their advances. The midfielder has also been tipped to become a target for Aston Villa and Everton this summer too.

However, Paul Robinson insists Mourinho’s departure has changed the balance for Alli. He reckons the midfielder will now spurn any exit route and will thrive again under whoever is appointed as the Portuguese’s successor.

“I don’t think he will leave this summer, to be honest,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“It’s a completely different situation now Ryan Mason’s come in. I think we’ll see him play a lot more between now and the end of the season.

“I wouldn’t read too much into him being on the bench for the last couple of games.

“Players like Alli and Harry Winks, those who were left out in the cold to a certain extent, we’ll see them more.

“I still think they’ve got a very big part to play at the club.”
