Tottenham to be offered £55m midfielder in tempting Ndombele swap

Inter Milan are readying a swap deal with Tottenham that would see Marcelo Brozovic move to Spurs and Tanguy Ndombele head to Italy, according to a report.

Tottenham’s club-record signing Ndombele, who arrived from Lyon last summer, has struggled to settle this season.

After struggling with continued fitness problems, relations with boss Jose Mourinho hit breaking point in March. After a 1-1 draw with Burnley, Mourinho insisted there were only so many chances for the Frenchman to prove himself.

However, Mourinho has since backed Ndombele to come good as he continues to acclimatise to his new culture.

According to Corrierre dello Sport, though, the relations remain on tenterhooks. The Italian newspaper says the 23-year-old “can already leave London” following his initial problems.

Previous reports have suggested that Barcelona are keen on Ndombele. The Spanish giants were reportedly considering their own swap deal.

However, there is now concrete interest from Inter boss Antonio Conte, who feels he can get the exciting potential out of Ndombele.

As such, Inter are working on a swap deal to allow Spurs to sign Brozovic, with Ndombele going the other way.

Conte no longer sees 27-year-old Croatia international Brozovic as “fundamental” and believes a fresh defensive midfielder can carry his side forward.

Brozovic moved to Inter from Dinamo Zagreb in 2016 and has made 193 appearances so far. This season, he has played 39 times, chipping in with three goals and five assists.

On the international stage, the midfielder has 51 caps and featured at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, as well as the 2016 European Championships.

A previous report from Calciomercato claimed he has a £55million release clause in his deal, which runs out in 2022.
