Tottenham given chance for permanent Bale signing due to Madrid plan

Tottenham’s chances of signing Gareth Bale on a permanent deal could be back on, according to reports.

Bale returned to Tottenham on loan from Real Madrid in the summer, seven years after moving in the opposite direction as the most expensive footballer ever at the time.

The Welsh forward had fallen out of favour over his last couple of years in Madrid. Therefore, to get his career back on track, Los Blancos sent him back where he came from.

Bale’s return to Spurs seemed like the ideal move for him to rediscover his love of football. However, it has taken him time to get back to his best.

Things are moving in the right direction again now, with Bale having scored four goals in his last four games across all competitions.

Prior to him hitting that form, there had been doubts about what next season would hold for the 31-year-old. He still has one year left on his contract with Real Madrid.

Tottenham may have been reluctant to buy him back permanently when his form was stuttering. But now he is becoming influential again, it may be a boost for them to explore such a deal.

After his two goals and man of the match display against Burnley, Gareth Bale admits he’s been ignoring his critics and now hopes Spurs can use the result to finish the season strongly.

According to the Daily Express, Madrid are now ready to cash in on Bale’s return to form.

It is claimed that Tottenham will be offered the chance to sign Bale permanently, as Madrid need to raise funds if they are to make their own big-money signings.

Kylian Mbappe is a top target at the Bernabeu, but the PSG forward will not come cheap. Getting Bale’s £600,000-per-week wages off the books would be a starting point in terms of freeing up funds for that deal.

It is not yet clear what price Madrid will set for Bale’s signature.

Agent slams treatment of Bale

Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett recently hinted that he would be open to a return to Madrid – although he criticised the behaviour of some fans towards his client.

“He still loves Madrid,” Barnett told Goal.com. “He hasn’t problems with the club, it’s a wonderful club.

“It wouldn’t be a problem. They just have to decide if they need him back, if he can play for Madrid and all these things.”

“I think that in time, people will realise how important Bale was for Real Madrid,” he added to AS. “How badly he was treated by the fans when they should be thanking him every day of their lives for what he has done for the club. It is a ridiculous situation that Real Madrid fans should be ashamed of.

“He did everything right on the pitch and behaved incredibly well with the club.

“He never said anything bad and he won a lot of things; many of the great goals in Real Madrid history were scored by Gareth, so when they look back, I think they’ll see how idiotic they’ve been with him.”
