Tottenham draw up plan to replace key man with 20-year-old

Tottenham are planning to phase out Moussa Sissoko in favour of re-integrating an academy product, a report claims.

Sissoko took some time to settle at Spurs after joining them from Newcastle in 2016. However, he has grown in importance over the past couple of years.

This season, the midfielder has started 14 Premier League games and made a further four substitute appearances. However, that gametime may begin to drop in the near future.

Sissoko recently hinted that he would be open to leaving Tottenham if the right offer arose. It seems his club are also planning for life without him.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham believe Oliver Skipp can take Sissoko’s role in the first team when he returns from his loan spell with Norwich City.

Skipp came through the youth ranks with Spurs, making 23 senior appearances before joining Norwich on loan for this season.

His spell in the Championship has seen him grow at senior level. Skipp has started all 32 of Norwich’s games in the Championship so far.

With his potential becoming clear, Tottenham are now ready to re-integrate Skipp when he returns from his loan spell. That means bad news for Sissoko.

As a result of Skipp’s eventual return to Tottenham, Sissoko will fall behind him in the pecking order, it is claimed.

Manager Jose Mourinho does not believe he has yet found the ideal midfield partner for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. For example, Harry Winks has also struggled for gametime this season.

Now, there are hopes that Skipp could eventually fill that role. That additional competition would restrict Sissoko’s chances.

Therefore, the 31-year-old may have to start considering his options more.

Spurs in keeper battle

Another area where Tottenham are already making plans for the future is the goalkeeping department.

Hugo Lloris has been linked with a move to PSG, where he could reunite with Mauricio Pochettino.

That would mean Tottenham would need a new number one, and a recent report identified their top target.

However, they are not the only suitor.
